Aims, contents and method of the course

Goals: gaining a structured overview of the specific urban development processes in SEE.
Competences to be achieved: knowledge about specific development paths in SEE. Critical reflexion of dominant theories on urban spaces from the viewpoint of the periphery.
Focusing on SEE cities, the historical framings will be elaborated, as well as the specificities of urban development under socialism, as well as the multiple transformations since the 1990s.

Methods: discussion, presentation, seminar work

Assessment and permitted materials

For the successful completion of the seminar the following basic achievements are required:
- regular and active participation in the course
- reflection of basic literature
- presentation, seminar work

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- active participation in the course (25%)
- seminar thesis (50%)
- short presentation (25%)
