Aims, contents and method of the course

7 blocks: I. Megarelief (mountain ranges, as f.i. the Andenes or the Tien Shan of Kirgyzstan), II. Macrorelief (as f. i. the style of the Eastern Alps), III. Sediments (material and deposition in the Eastern Alps and in the Basin of Vienna), IV. Clastic Sedimentology (reworking and transportation, as f. i. along the Kali Gandaki river in the Himalayas, V. Glacial Sediments (as f. i. in the Traun-valley and in the Himalayas), VI. Karst (as f.i. in the Dachstein-massive), VII. massmovements (examples from all over the world with emphasize on Kirgyzstan), VIII. Lecture along a geological walk through the Inner City of Vienna! Parts of this lecture also give an intruductions to the excursions "Geomorphology of the Salzkammergut Region" in the following Semester.

Assessment and permitted materials

Catalogue of app. 100 exam-questions, written examination!

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students should comprehend the most important content of geology, such as petrology, paleontology, mineralogy and natural resources, to logically use it for answering questions in (physical) geography!

Examination topics

Lecture with ppt-presentation, examples for exercise and of applied geological work, tools (f.i. gological compass), illustrative material (such as rocks, minerals, fossiles etc.), ending with a geological walk through the Inner City of Vienna!
