Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The topic of this seminar is dedicated to the third dimension of high-resolution topographic 3D geospatial data acquired by state-of-the-art technology. Such a widely used technology is topographic laser scanning, or also referred to as LiDAR. Investigating and understanding Earth surface phenomena in physical geography by means of high-resolution 3D topographic sensing will be discussed and critically reflected. Course literature comprises selected peer-reviewed journal papers. Additionally to the reading seminar, an introduction into literature search, paper reviewing process and science citation databases will be given.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Aims: Scientific reading and discussing will also help to improve your own writing skills. You will learn the chances and limitations of applying laser scanning for the investigation of surface processes and landforms. The seminar will provide insight into the current state-of-the-art of high-resolution topography in physical geography.
