New Media and Webdesign in Tourism

The value creation chain in tourism is changing due to the application of new technologies and also as a result of modified general conditions (megatrends in tourism). Considering as examples various businesses (eg hotel industry, catering business, sights, airlines, travel agencies, tourist regions)the resulting impact on tourism shall be exemplarily demonstrated and the above-mentioned changes shall be discussed in relation to practice. The internet will be at the centre of consideration. As far as supply is concerned, the most recent technologies and strategies - especially taking into account urban tourism - will be analysed; as for demand, the profile of the e-tourist will be at the focus of attention and the related e-marketing (analysis of success factors of tourist web presentations, business plans for web projects, marketing via mail and newsletters ...) will be presented. Additionally the changes in preliminary tourist services due to new media (such as the use of PDA in guided city tours or shopping TV chains focussing on travel and tourism) will be discussed.
