Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Currently, we plan to visit Chicago (US), Madison (US), and finally Québec City (Canada) from 10. Sept - 19 Sept. This is subject to change.This year's field trip will take us to North America again, where we plan to visit research groups in major cities and attend the COSIT 2024 conference. The travel dates will be in mid-September for 7-9 days. We will learn about the US and Canada, how universities and research labs work in North America, and get the chance to listen to presentations about cutting-edge research in spatial data science, spatial cognition, and related fields. Trip details will be announced in the mandatory "290095-1 PS Proseminar zur Fachexursion". We will accept students from various Master's at the Department of Geography and Regional Research. While not a strict pre-requisite, we recommend that students have visited at least an Introduction to Spatial Data Science or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) class at a Master's or bachelor's level in the past. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out or join the first meeting of the Proseminar in March.Accommodation will be in 2 or 4-person bedrooms in major hotels across the visited cities. Transportation will be mainly by plane and train, including local metro or Uber/taxi transport.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation & writing of a topic (60%), active participation (40%). We will write a short paper (or papers) together for COSIT 2024; details in class. Attendance is mandatory.

While not a strict pre-requisite, we recommend that students have visited at least an Introduction to Spatial Data Science or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) class at a Master's or bachelor's level in the past. Examination topics
Students elaborate on topics relevant to the excursion area and present their findings (as a joint short paper/papers).
