(i) Regular attendence in the theoretical and exercise parts;

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course is designed for TA students in their third semester. Main targets are the mediation of basic statistical concepts and analytical tools, the acquirement of practical knowledge in handling the statistical program SPSS, the exercising of the translation of empirical questions into statistical analyses and the training of the interpretation of results.
Examination topics
The course will take place partly in classroom 5A at the department (theoretical part), partly in the computer training classroom (practical exercises and tutorials). A detailed plan with all dates is available at the billboard next to my room and at the homepage http://homepage.univie.ac.at/elisabeth.aufhauser/lehrveranstaltung.htm.
Attendance is compulsory for the theoretical and exercise part.
All analytical work steps and procedures will be exercised jointly at the computer with real regional and survey data from Austria. A detailed manual will be provided to support individual pacing of learning processes.
Students will have to do excercises in statistical analysis and interpretation on their own related to each of the four thematical blocs. Two tutors will provide help. Excercises will be corrected and problems and results will be discussed jointly.
