Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims, contents and method of the course: The course focuses on contemporary issues and strategies of urban development and related policies in European and Us-American Cities. Perspectives of urban development will be discussed at different spatial levels and explained by theoretical concepts and empirical evidence. Issues of urban development will be discussed on-site on selected projects of urban development in the City of Vienna. Smaller empirical projects organized by the students themselves are on the agenda. Students will present their observations and results of the empirical work.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria: During this course, the students shall:
¿Gain an overview of the current issues of urban development.
¿Strengthen the ability to analyze and present specific research questions in an independent way
¿Practice the communicative skills and competences necessary for dealing with planners and politicians
