Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Borders determine the "own" versus the "other", create identity, but also demarcation. Creating or transcending boundaries is deeply rooted in people's thinking and actions. The concepts of space and boundaries are very diverse; living spaces are created through definitions of boundaries; conversely, boundaries determine spatial entities such as states or regions. The topic was occupied for a long time by political geography and geopolitics, before it became a post-disciplinary and multiscalar field of research today. The aim of this seminar is to elaborate theory-based practical examples of different levels of scale in Asia, analyzing the causes, duration, barriers, conflicts of demarcations and attempts to overcome them.
