Aims, contents and method of the course
Course to Prepare the Students for the Field Trip to the USA: Miami - New Orleans: Recent Urban Developments and Perspectives of Urban Landscapes in the United StatesThe seminar focuses on the structures of US American cities and metropolitan areas, emphasizing contemporary issues and strategies of urban policy. Miami and New Orleans will serve as examples to examine these objectives from various perspectives, including disciplines like urban history, sociology, geography, economics and urban planning. This is supposed to provide a basis for a deeper understanding of contemporary urban problems. Another aim is to compare the roles of urban planning and the private sector with regard to generating urban problems and their efficiency at resolving them. A socio-spatial approach analysing the interrelationships of individuals and ethnic, social and cultural groups is aimed to understand issues of diversity, equality, and structured inequality in US American urban landscapes.ECTS-Punkte (ECTS credit points): 2
