Aims, contents and method of the course

The course "Applied Urban Geography" is aimed at applying theoretical concepts and questions of research in urban geography according to the contents presented in the lecture "Urban Geography". A specific issue of urban geography will be selected and transformed into an applied research project. As a result, the project should provide new findings on the selected topic of urban geography. By realizing this research project, the participants will acquire skills necessary for developing questions of research as well as for planning and conducting research projects in urban geography. This subject additionally comprises methods of selecting adequate indicators and collecting data samples. Improving skills at the selection and application of appropriate methods of data analysis and the interpretation of the results are further issues of the didactic concept of this course. Following especially designed guidelines participants will work independently on developing and carrying out their individual research projects. The results will be presented in class and summarized in a final report.

Assessment and permitted materials

Der positive Abschluss die Lehrveranstaltung setzt sich zusammen aus:
• Anwesenheit + aktive Mitgestaltung der Workshops und Diskussionen (25%)
• Arbeitsaufgaben (25%)
Abschlusspräsentation und -arbeit (Gruppenarbeit) 50%
