290118 EX Scientific Excursion: Graz - Ljublijana - Zagreb - Maribor (2012S)

“Smart, sustainable and inclusive growth” (2010, European Commission). These are the principles of the European long term strategy „Europe 2020“. Not only a resource efficient and greener economy play a major role but also economic, social and territorial cohesion. Contributions to this strategy are requested of all levels and actors within the EU. The question must be raised in how far those principles match with concepts of spatial planning and urban development as well as how they shall be set in in practice. Doubtlessly, there may be tensions between theory and practice of the various fields and levels of action. Right to these fields of tension the focus of the excursion will be dedicated. Various distinct problems and questions of spatial planning and urban development will be discussed in a comparison of cities from four countries: Bratislava, Budapest, Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Munich
