Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on the cours "Einführung in die statistische Datenanalyse für Geograph/inn/en", this course aims at a consolidation of statistics for geographers and addresses students in the advanced study period. It centers on the most important multivariate statistical methods such as Regression-, Path-, Cluster- Discriminant- and Factor- Analysis. The course is divided into a lecture and a exercise course. Special emphasize is given to the computer supported use of the methods for geographical questions. The students will be couraged to bring in own research questions and discuss them in the exercise course. Thus the relevance of quantitative methods within scientific work will be pointed out even more clearly.
Assessment and permitted materials
Return all exercises, active cooperation, partial examination, final examination
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goal of this course is to apply quantitative and comparative analysis techniques through a set of hands-on exercises and projects. The course will impart the necessary skills in the process of carrying out actual analyses of real data sets.
Examination topics
The lessons are devided in a introduction into the methodes and procedures of statistical dataanalysis and an extended practical example. The practical example is based on different datasets.
