During the course, examples for growing and declining cities will be analyzed as well as the reasons and consequences of these processes. Due to the actuality of the topic, the participants will also have to focus on the causes of financial crisis and its impact on US-American cities.
This course is followed by a field-trip to the USA in summer term (17h March 2010 - 1st April 2010). Current route: Chicago - Detroit - Buffalo (NY) - New York City. Estimated expenses: about 2.000 EUR for flight and accommodation (without expenses for food, entrance fees etc.). Approximately 20% will be reimbursed by grants.
