Aims, contents and method of the course

The main targets of the course are the introduction of population geography and the related demographic issues through the use of population data (mainly data from Statistik Austria) and the measurement of population characteristics and change ( such as age, sex, fertility, mortality, social structure, …). The data will be used to understand, reproduce and interpret the quantitative analyses of population assessment. The analyses will be carried out with the Excel program.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance is compulsory, tutorials will be provided via Moodle. Excercise will be assigned. Over the course of the semester, tasks have to be completed in group work. These culminate in the final submission of a regional profile.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance, participation and short presentations (10%)
Submission of exercises (60%)
Final submission of the regional profile (30%)
