Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to acquire skills in reading economic texts, in arranging presentations, developing questions about current economic policy issues. Special emphasize will be put on formulating self-contained, clear, and understandable economic policy problems and possible recommendations. The course will stimulate your readiness to discuss these issues. The topics will cover a blend of current economic policy issues oriented along the schedule for secondary education at Austrian Gymnasium/BHS, which have been discussed recently in economic journals. During the course we will develop skills for problem analysis and appropriate economic policy advice.

Assessment and permitted materials

Seminar paper (topics, short and long version) and presentation in class. Elaborating questions and answers for each topic.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Absence of at most two units. Hand over of short version and the presentation sheets one week before your presentation. Hand over of long version before the end of the semester. Ongoing development of questions to the topics presented and elaborating one answer related to your own presentation. The quality of the written paper contributes 40%, the presentation in class 40%, the questions 10%, and the answers 10% to your grade.
