Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture provides information on the criteria to classify vegetation in space and time connected with theories and hypothesis on structure an dynamics on the vegetation cover in a regional and a global perspective too. Particularly we will convey theoretical basics of vegetation ecology such as the organismic hypothesis versus the individualistic one, the continuum versus discontinuum concept, diversity theories. Biodiversity of the Earth and conservation biology are essential guiding themes.
The lecture provides an overview of the vegetation classes of Austria and of the climatical determined vegetation-belts of the Earth.
