Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Gaining basic knowledge about the problems of vacancy and temporary usage of premises as well as about the problems of retail; independent mapping of various forms of usage in inner city ground floor areas; analysis, interpretation and presentation of relevant issues using spatial statistics

Contents: Various possibilities for temporary useage and ongoing change in ground floor areas in the 7th district of Vienna (Neubau); mapping and cartographic visualization

Method: Review and discussion about the possibilities of usage of ground floor areas; independent mapping; analysis with spatial statistics using ESRI ArcGIS

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation during the course; willingness to participate in discussions; taking part in ground floor mapping in small groups; participation in the GIS block seminar; analysis, interpretation, and visualization of the results; final report

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

10% attendance, active participation
30% mapping and analysis
20% presentation
40% final report
