Aims, contents and method of the course

The course deals with the question of how processes of socio-economic regional development are affected by globalization of production and innovation and examines the ways by which different region types can reposition themselves in globally configured production and innovation networks. The course provides opportunities to discuss these issues from a theoretical perspective and by drawing on concrete empirical examples.

Assessment and permitted materials

Seminar paper, short presentation of selected topic, peer review, presence and contributions to the discussion in the classroom, joint discussion of compulsory literature

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

On completion of the course, the students shall be able to
-Assess important theoretical approaches related to the overall theme of the seminar
-Explain and assess conditions and strategies for a successful repositioning of regional economies in global production and innovation networks
-Critically review and analyse selected topics in a seminar paper and in a short presentation
