Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on examples participants will learn how the use the often complex tools of geographic information systems by using a desktop GIS (ArcView). Focus is laid on how to prepare existent data for the use in a GIS (e.g. combine geometry and statistical data) and visualize them in a cartographic way.1. Desktop GIS - Basics2. Import of geo data3. Definition of the reference system4. Load, join and export of tables5. Edition, addition and calculation of attributes6. Legend styles and classification methods7. Data aggregation applying summarize and dissolve function8. Design and edition of map symbols9. Main map vs overview map10. Map layout, its features and generation in GIS11. Map preparation for other softwareDiscussion and practice
