Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

An outline of forms of social interaction, teaching methods and the use of various kinds of media in geography classes, including practical tasks based on authentic learning situations. A review of currently relevant cognition theories. A guideline on developing own courses and lessons.

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Written tasks focusing on both forms of social interaction in class and use of different media. Designing and evaluating worksheets and learning materials. Planning lessons for practical implementation in class taking into account various possible applications of media, materials and methods.
2) Written exam covering the contents discussed in the course of the methodology seminar.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A critical approach to crucial aspects of teaching and their basic methodological principles. Deliberate, purpose-oriented application of state-of-the-art teaching methods as well as implementation of various forms of authentic learner-based social interactions and efficient use of media.

Examination topics

Participation in hands-on group activities during the seminar classes in order to acquire teaching skills, as well as to internalize the learning contents of the seminar. A portfolio including written assignments, focusing on the development of individual lesson plans and materials and providing a personal approach to various aspects of teaching and methodology.
