Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students have gained an overview to the relevance of Vienna as a geopolitical metropolis under a variety of aspects.

In the course of the excursion days, three phases:
1. Political/geographical metropolis of a multi-ethnic empire
2. City at the border of geopolitical fault lines
3. Modern Smart City
will be considered under different factors of human geography.

Each day, the excursion will lead to four selected stops which are of political-geographic relevance (e.g. Heldenplatz, Karl-Marx-Court, Central Train Station, “Seestadt” Aspern). There, exemplary factors which gave/give Vienna an outstanding geopolitical/human geographical role and function will be studied.
