Aims, contents and method of the course

This course shall display to the students the basics of the practical work of map editing done by a cartographer. Main goal beside confronting the students with the most recent theoretical and scientific aspects of this work is finally to be able to set up a whole plan for the practical editorial work and map editing for a specific cartographic product. One of the main focuses beside bringing in the knowledge acquired in other courses is in addition the consideration of juristical (copyright, competition regulations) issues as well as economical aspects.
The second part of this course is focusing on the basics of cost accounting. Based on the knowledge of the basics of cost accounting (including examples) the students shall be able to use and to interpret the numbers resulting of a cartographic production process given by an accountant in order to use them for the cost accounting of new products and to plan and optimize the specific production process.
