Aims, contents and method of the course

The course gives an introduction to the theory of fuzzy sets and shows their application in GIS. The following topics will be treated: introduction and motivation, crisp and fuzzy sets, notation, properties of fuzzy sets, membership functions, set operations, alpha-cuts and decomposition principle, fuzzy numbers and extension principle, fuzzy relations, fuzzy linguistic terms, fuzzy inference.

At the end of the course students will be able to understand the theory of fuzzy sets and to apply them in GIS applications.
