Aims, contents and method of the course
The course gives an introduction to the theory of fuzzy sets and shows their application in GIS. The following topics will be treated: introduction and motivation, crisp and fuzzy sets, notation, properties of fuzzy sets, membership functions, set operations, alpha-cuts, fuzzy relations, fuzzy linguistic terms, fuzzy inference, applications in GIS.At the end of the course students will be able to understand the theory of fuzzy sets and to apply them in GIS applications.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be done by one interim test and one final test as well as assignments. The tests are closed book.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
For each of the tests 16 points can be achieved; for the assignments 32 points can be achieved. In total 64 points are possible. To pass the course at least 39 points must be achieved. For the grading scale refer to the Moodle page of the course.
