Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The students have gained an overview to phenomena of human and physical geography that have an influence on political geography and geopolitics. Various natural (coasts, rivers, mountain ridges, islands, flatlands …) and man-made (bridges, walls, borders, tunnels, corridors …) elements and connotations (curtain, cordon sanitaire, en/exclave ...) will be examined regarding their connecting or separating effects on the political geography. These phenomena are being examined using historical or recent examples in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The lecture will be supported by audio-visuals and selected reading.
