Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Lectures will focus on the following four themes: (1) influence of landform processes upon human activity, (2) consequences of resource management strategies on sediment mobilization within the landscape, (3) identification and mitigation of natural hazards, (4) the role of geomorphic process studies in environmental planning. Case studies to exemplify the four themes will be drawn from biomes and urban settings in every continent.

Assessment and permitted materials

written examination based on lectures and material distributed in class; class attendance essential!

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course is designed as an introductory class to the "Applied Geomorphology" concentration under the Master of Science in "Theoretical and Applied Geography". Its main objective is to demonstrate the utility of geomorphological principles in applied and planning situations.

Examination topics

Lecture course, relevant materials will be distributed in class.
