Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: The lecture enhances students’ knowledge of economic structures and processes from a geographical perspective. It develops students’ understanding of key questions and core concepts of economic geography and increases their skills to apply theoretical approaches to explain empirical observations of the spatial dimension of economic activities. Special attention will be given to enhance students’ knowledge / skills in the fields of: location choices, regional growth and development, spatial distribution and organization of production and innovation activities, modern regional and innovation policies
Content: discussion of basic notions, theories and empirical applications of economic geography: location theories, geographical clusters, global production networks, structural chance of industries and places, technological and societal change, new approaches to regional and innovation policies
Method: Lecture; self-assessment exercises (optional)

Assessment and permitted materials

Final exam (Multiple-Choice-Test). No materials allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Multiple-Choice-Test: maximum of 80 points; pass: minimum of 41 points
0-40 points: insufficient (fail)
41-50: sufficient
51-60: satisfactory
61-70: good
71-80: excellent
