Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The excursion will focus on gravitational mass movements in Lower Austria. Amongst other spots, the rockfall sites at Ofenloch near Waidhofen/Ybbs, the Salcher Landslide Observatory and the earth flow close to Konradsheim will be visited. Geological disposition and the triggering factors of the respective landslide processes will be discussed. In addition, protective measures and the options for a sustainable management of landslide hazards and risks will be reviewed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students should get an insight into different types of gravitational mass movements and their description in the field, as well as to learn how to evaluate counter measures.
Examination topics
This 1-day field trip will be carried out with a motor-coach. At the sites, small hikes (1-2 h) will be undertaken (partly on landslides and in steep terrain). Good hiking shoes are required. The excursion will take place at any weather conditions and it is recommended to dress accordingly (rain jacket, umbrella, hiking shoes etc.)
