Aims, contents and method of the course

Aim of this course is to discuss and analyze the dynamic processes of demographic, economic, social, cultural and political transformations of ethnic minorities in Southeast Asia. Trends towards modernity, globalization and development have benefited to parts of the society; simultaneously however the disparity of marginalized groups is increasing. Among the issues discussed are: demographic and socio-economic changes, impact of development projects, rural-urban and international migration, ethnic tourism, ethnic and cultural identity etc.
