The origin, the meaning and the use of geographical names are the issues of this lector. Main topic is the treatment of toponyms and the handling of problems which arise by the use of toponyms in any kind of publication (maps, mass media, text books, and others). All core problems of toponomy (transcription, exonyms, minority names, lettering of maps, ¿) will be treated in a systematic way. Cartographers, editors and geographers will be instructed in the correct use of toponyms in any kind of publication.
