Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The proseminar adresses advanced students after 1st diploma. The lesson aims learning and improving practial applied GIS-skills when dealing with aspects of environment, regional planning and (socio-)economic development. Sufficient knowledge in using standard GIS software (ArcGIS will be used) is expected.
Regarding methodology, polygon- and raster-based modeling by integrating statistics and geostatistics will be applied. Further the students will improve their experience in dealing with large data sets and in presentation of project layout and project results. Regarding work experience project development, project management and team work will be trained "by doing".
The proseminars' objective is to achieve project results through mutual work carried out by student teams. There will be no 'teacher-centered' lecture, but the contents will rather be experienced during discussion and practice within and between the teams, led by the lecturer.
Depending on the number of students 3-5 teams will be established featuring 3-4 members.
Personal application to be adressed to Regina Schneider (http://homepage.univie.ac.at/regina.schneider/Lehre/SS09_anmeldung.html).
