Textbooks in schools are considered to be "the secret syllabus", but nevertheless they are just an interpretation of the syllabus. Teachers should be enabled to select their textbooks in different quality out of a big offer of books on the market. Therefore it is essential to train their ability in methodical and didactical analysis on the basics of a contemporary geography-didactical knowledge and on the basis of the ability to interpret the statuated syllabi of secondary schools. Textbooks of schools are an importatnt source to demonstrate different paradigmata of syllabi and different interpretations as well.
Textbooks are also important in training teacherstudents to show them different methodical approaches, to compare and rate them - in examples of Austrian and foreign geography-textbooks as well. In the last years a many virtual supplements for schools and their textbooks were published in addition to the textbooks. Selected examples are supposed to be compared and alternative ways should be worked out including the analysis of materials offered on the WWW.
Up to now several working-papers have been published as a result of the proseminar on the website of this course at the URL : http://homepage.univie.ac.at/Christian.Sitte/FD
