Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In Austria as in comparable European countries (regional) population trends are characterized by low fertility, raising life expectancy and high levels of net migration. These trends will also define the demographic future of Austria, especially demographic ageing. The lecture presents an overview of fertility, mortality and migration trends in Austria in the last decades and tries to explain these trends. Based on the results of various population forecasts the possible consequencies of demographic ageing for the society in general and for the social welfare system are discussed.
