Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the lecture is to provide fundamental knowledge in economic policy. The fields of economic policy are being exemplified by Austrian and European policy measures.

The content of the lecture comprises the following chapters:
1. Introduction and overview; 2. Goals, indicators and trade-offs in economic policy; 3. Instruments and decision units in economic policy; 4. Growth policy; 5. Business cycle and Stabilisation policy; 6. Social policy, distribution policy; 7. Regional policy; 8. European economic policy; 9. Implementation, Realisation of economic policy.

The method is a classic lecture, but questions, comments and critique may be raised and discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exams which are announced in moodle.
No materials permitted during exams.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

No requirements in terms of presence at the lectures.
Three questions have to be answered at the examination. For each answer a maximum of 2 points and a minimum of 0 points are given.
Assessment: 6 points = 1; 5 points = 2; 4 points = 3; 3 points = 4; less than 3 points = 5.

Examination topics

Examination covers all topics as presented in the lectures.

The powerpoint-files of the lecture will be available as downloads from the e-learning platform moodle. These files also contain a comprehensive list of the relevant literature.
