Aims, contents and method of the course

Problems of Masstourism in Third World Countries
This lecture deals with explanations regarding the development of third world tourism based on the latest results of tourism research. The specific development of tourism in third world countries wll be discussed based on selected indicators. Beside this overall view specific insights will be provided focussed on spatial and economical consequences of the tourism flows. Sustainable and innovative phenomena of tourism will be discussed in detail. It is worth mentioning that third world tourism will not be introduced as the unique devil responsible for negative consequences but chances and risks, curse and blessing are mirrored from a critical point of view. Interesting insights will not be restricted to the tourist segment, but the problems discussed will also include the natives themselves and their attitudes towards tourism. The main objective of this lecture is to enable the students to judge various forms of tourism according to their potential of risk adequately
