Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Today Turkey can be seen as a country of considerable contradictions. But where is contemporary Turkey actually located, in Europe or in Asia, or both? What kind of Turkey will we see in the near future, a predominantly islamic nation as part of the Middle East respectively a member of the planned "Mediterranean Confederation¿, a neo-Ottoman big power as the centre of gravity of a new "Turk Region", or a laical, West oriented, future potential member state of the European Union, as Kemal Atatürk had in mind? It is the aim of this course to discuss and analyse the political, economic and socio-demographic transformation and the regional disparities, which are characteristic of Turkey today, as well as their impact on the Turkish migrant population in Vienna and Austria.
