Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Urban Analysis focuses on methods and analytical skills and broadens the methodological tool box of each student. Methods like semi-structured interviews and observation are supposed to be practiced within a specific project conducted within a working-group in Vienna.

Additionally, we provide applied workshops for predominately quantitative methods (e.g. statistics and cartography) which will be enriched by qualitative methods (e.g. interactive and creative workshop tools). A strong emphasis lies on collaborations with external experts and institutions. Therefore, we cooperate with the City of Vienna and with the Center for Subject Didactics (Fachdidaktikzentrum Geographie und Wirtschaftskunde) tp://fdz-gw.univie.ac.at/.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance, cooperation, complete assignments, public presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students shall be able to define a question of research and analyze it with the help of an appropriate set of quantitative and qualitative methods. The students are enabled to visualize spatial patterns and to present solution strategies.
