Aims, contents and method of the course

Focus of the seminar is the social co-construction of gender and space relations.

Thematic focus
1) Geographies of gender-specific divisions of labour
2) Gender and the right to the city
3) Bodies in/and spaces
4) Cultural spaces and the production of identity
5) Gender and (geo)politics
6) Feminist political ecology

Methods: inputs by the course leader; discussion of selected basic literature; peer discussion and evaluation; individual seminar paper; Pecha Kucha presentations

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in the discussions
Preparatory reading of selected basic literature
Presentation of one thematic focus in a small group
Exposé for an individual seminar paper
Seminar paper plus short presentation

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum 80% attendance in the course
Positive assessment from 60% of 100 points.

Participation and discussion (up to 20 points)

Presentation (up to 20 points)
Written seminar paper (up to 40 points)

Grading key:
90 points +: Very good
80 to 89 points: Good
70 to 79 points: Satisfactory
60 to 69 points: Sufficient
< 60 points: Not sufficient

Examination topics

Seminar paper: comparative analysis of a specific issue in geographical gender research on the basis of three articles includiung empirical research. Length approx. 30,000 characters (without bibliography and reflection). Presentation of the seminar paper in June.
