It is the aim of this advanced level lecture to get to know the endangerment of soils by different types of soil degradation and its spatial differentiation. All important types of soil degradation are treated. The presented types of soil degradation encompass soil biological, soil chemical, and soil physical degradation. These are soil erosion by water and wind, soil salinization, desertification, soil sealing, and soil contamination by heavy metals. Towards the end of the lecture, the focus will be on chances and limitations of the restoration of degraded soils.
