This seminar aims at getting to know the role of soils in climate change. Soils of the most important climate zones are being examined with respect to their function as sources and sinks of greenhouse gases. Feedback loops between soil properties and the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases will be treated extensively. Land management options to optimize soil carbon sequestration are discussed as well.
The contents will be taught as a seminar; so student presentations are followed by discussions. This advanced seminar is aimed at Geography students in the second part of their course of study. The participants are expected to have a basic knowledge on various aspects of physical Geography.ECTS credit points: 6.0
