Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:
• Translation of conceptual thinking into written form and a presentation
• Formulation of specific research questions and related hypothesis
• Master's thesis: Presentation of guided and supervised, but independent “research work” - conducted using scientific methods
• Development and presentation of the “common thread” for the master's thesis
• Presentation of the master's thesis (Handout and presentation)
• Peer review of a colleague’s presentation (Discussion)

Contents:
• Concretization of one's own master's thesis
• Integration of selected content into existing national and international findings, with a particular focus on specialist articles in scientific journals
• Identification of open research gaps
• Presentation of the master's thesis based on the master's thesis guidelines as part of a lecture and supporting handouts
• Critical reflection on the ideas presented in other master's theses, particularly with regard to clear topics, objectives with hypotheses and research questions, findings to date, methodological approach, and any results, if already available

Method:
• Presentation of master's theses in lectures supported by a powepoint presentation and digital handouts
• Discussion of master's theses

Please note: The language of teaching is English, but some of the assigned readings are in German.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

• Regular attendance, only one session can be missed
• Presentation of master's thesis
• Digital handout for colleagues
• Discussion/peer review

Assessment criteria:
87,5 – 100 % „Excellent“
75,0 < 87,5 % „Good“
62,5 < 75,0 % „Satisfactory“
50 < 62,5 % „Sufficient“
< 50 % „Insufficient“
