Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture will introduce students to modern and advanced GIS concepts, which are seen in the context of the geo-database of ESRI. The different topics include spatial data properties, spatial data models and data structures, data collection - specially with the use of a GPS - and projection , data manipulation and presentation of spatial data. The lecture aims to show the students the important role of Spatial Analysis in all the different fields of environmental analysis, landscape planing, conservation biology and accordingly its human dimension.
The computer-based laboratory exercise will develop advanced and practical skills of handling spatial data in a specific GIS environment (ArcView 3.x. Arc/Info and ArcGis). The used version of the ESRI - Products is desktop based. The GIS-laboratory offers a 12 licences of all ESRI- products.
