Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction lecture to the basic principles of the embryonic development in animals.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LECTURE WILL BE GIVEN IN ENGLISH.

We will introduce the basic principles and the control mechanisms regulating animal development.
We will cover the following topics:
- Questions of developmental biology
- A brief overview of the early animal development
- Molecular basics of developmental biology
- The driving forces of morphogenesis
- Pattern formation in development
- Development of selected vertebrates (fish, amphibians, birds, mammals)
- Development of model invertebrates (Drosophila, Caenorhabditis, Sea urchins, tunicates, cnidarians)
- Stem cells

Assessment and permitted materials

written Exam consisting of 4-6 questions
There will be 4 exam dates distributed over the next two semesters. Please check U:Space for dates and locations.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To pass the exam, minimally 50% of the points must be achieved.

Examination topics

The exam questions focus on the understanding of the developmental principles and processes, based on specific experiments and animal models that are presented during the lecture.
