Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The different topics include spatial data properties, spatial data models and data structures, data collection (GPS, open data), projection , data manipulation and presentation of spatial data. The lecture aims to show the students the important role of Spatial Analysis in all the different fields of environmental analysis, landscape planing, conservation biology and accordingly its human dimension.
The computer-based laboratory exercise will develop advanced and practical skills of handling spatial data in a specific GIS environment (ArcGis). There will also be an introduction in the free and open source GIS-package QGIS.
