Aims, contents and method of the course

Most modern scientific communication is in English. This course will guide students through the processes of finding, reading, and understanding scientific papers in English. Students will practice writing and speaking about scientific research in a weekly seminar meeting.
Course activities will include online literature searching, reading scientific papers, understanding the reasoning and logic in a scientific presentation, writing various kinds of research reports, and informal speaking on topics from the literature.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Evaluation is based on attendance and participation (70%) and completion of homework assignments (30%). Attendance is required: one absence (excused or unexcused) will be allowed before your grade is affected.

There will be weekly reading and homework assignments, some of which will include a written assignment to be collected in class. These will be graded and will account for 30% of the final mark.
