Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture starts with the definition of what Conservation Biology is. The following terms will give a short overview of the the lecture: Conservation Biology versus environment protection; Conservation Bio-geography; Extinction; conservation concepts and protection of species; the legislative and administrative conditions of Conservation Biology in Austria and Europe; protected areas and international conservation strategies. During the whole lecture the term landscape is playing an essential role.
