Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Four morning excursions (lasting from 7am to 9am) and three whole-day excursions from March to June. Practical application of knowledge of songs and calls of common, widespread bird species and/or species of special conservation concern, complementary to the lecture 'Stimmen heimischer Vögel' (voices of Austrian birds, LV-Nr. 300499). The correct identification and interpretation of the bird songs and calls heard is practised. At the same time, explanations on identification by plumage are given as well as information on the life history and habitat needs of the species observed. An overview of the bird communities of the sites visited shall be achieved as much as possible. The sites can be reached by means of public transport. The morning excursions lead to places in or on the edge of Vienna (Schönbrunn park, Prater alluvial forest, Vienna Woods at Mauerbach, central cemetary). The day excursions lead to the alluvial floodplains of the river March, to Seewinkel and to montane areas in the south of Lower Austria.
