Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Basic legislative processes on Austrian and European level in a short overview. Essential contents of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Habitats Directive (HD) are presented. A focus is directed on the aquatic vegetation as well as on aspects of implementation. European Standardisation and its relation to national administration, as well as crosslinks to practice – in part in discussion format – are presented.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Conveying basics of European and Austrian legislation principles. Knowledge of WFD and HD contents, with a focus on aquatic vegetation. Basic knowledge of methodology for the assessment of aquatic vegetation. Management and elaboration of survey results.

Examination topics

Lectures, discussion sections related to special contents.
