Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this practical course the participants acquire the knowledge and expertise to sequence, annotate and analyze prokaryotic genome sequences. This includes Nanopore sequencing, assembly, gene prediction, prediction of protein functions and structures and comparative genome analyses. The sequencing and analysis of yet unsequenced genomes in this practical course allows us to address recent scientific questions in microbiology and microbial ecology using genomic methodologies. Basic knowledge in Bioinformatics and Genomics (as e.g. teached in lecture 300311) are required.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written report in the format of a publication (can be used as bachelor project).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Sequencing of microbial DNA; understanding and application of important computational methods for the analysis of genome sequences; automatic large-scale application of programs using small, self-written scripts; interpretation of the results of computational analyses with regard to the corresponding organism.
Examination topics
Knowledge and skills of computational methods for genome analysis.
Amount and quality of practical work in small work groups.
Amount and quality of practical work in small work groups.
Reading list
Will be provided during the seminar.
