· be able to perform simple calculations using concepts and rules of elementary mathematics and statistics;
· know selected probability distributions and be able to estimate distribution parameters on the basis of univariate samples;
· be able to use vectors and matrices for the representation of multivariate data and understand the use of linear algebra for the biological sciences;
· be able to apply simple methods of discrete and continuous analysis in modelling biological processes;
· know the principle of statistical testing and be able to perform selected 1-sample tests as well as 2-sample tests;
· describe the common variation of variables by correlation parameters and be able to perform (simple) regression analysis;
. be able to apply multivariate methods to simple problems.Special weight is put on the mathematical and statistical concepts, the selection of the correct methods and the interpretation of the results.Recommended: Notebook with EXCEL, R or SPSS.
